About Ian McAffer

Ian [Ian McAffer Trucks & Fridgeking NZ Ltd] has been involved in the NZ road transport industry since the late 1960's.

Ian began driving heavy trucks in 1969. He was bitten by the diesel bug to such an extent that he gave up an intended legal career when he joined Todd Motors Ltd as a heavy truck sales engineer in 1972. Early on he was involved in the introduction of the Mitsubishi Fuso trucks onto the NZ market, then spent time establishing Isuzu heavy trucks into NZ before taking up sales management roles firstly with the Mack, then the KW & Volvo distributors for NZ where he played a major role in establishing these two premium products in NZ from 1976 through to 1981. In 1982 he opened Ian McAffer Trucks a company that has specialised in selling new & used heavy truck & trailer equipment ever since. Over the past 25 years Ian has successfully retailed new Foden, Western Star and Scania heavy trucks [1980’s & early 90’s], re-established the Mercedes-Benz brand as a major player in the mid 1990’s [& again in the early 2000’s], plus he also played a significant role in the introduction of Freightliner & Sterling trucks into NZ.
